Submitted by on

In today's blog post, we will share information about five great events happening in Hot Springs Village next month! Always wanted to learn how to play bridge? Or maybe a relaxing evening picnic is more your style? Find out about these and other fun October opportunities here!

To start the list off with a nice transition, we have an event that spans both the end of September and the beginning of October:

Bridge Classes

If you're interested in learning the enjoyable and strategic game of bridge, then you're in luck! The Village Card Club will be teaching bridge classes this fall at the Casa de Carta, located at 1101 Desoto Boulvard. The class, called "Learn Bridge in A Day?®", is a five-hour course specifically designed to show newcomers and returning players the basics of the game. Three convenient times are offered: Saturday September 26, Wednesday September 30, or Saturday October 3, all from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration costs $19.99 and includes instructional materials and lunch. To register contact Suzanne Stofer, 501-226-5036 or ssstofer@gmail.com.

If cards aren't your thing, then how about a leisurely picnic? Look no further!

Wisconsin State Picnic

If you'd like to enjoy an evening fish fry, then stop by the Balboa Pavilion (476 Ponce de Leon Drive) on October 9th! The theme for the night's festivities will be "Wisconsin Neighborhood Get Together". The event will begin at 4 p.m. and includes fried cod and chicken with all the fixings, beer, and Racine kringle for dessert. For entertainment, guests will enjoy a DJ, door prizes and a 50/50 raffle! Attending this amazing event will set you back $15, but it is well worth it. Be sure to register by the October 3rd deadline if you wish to join the fun! Send checks to Barb Paprocki, 11 Cancion Way, HSV. Please include the name and hometown of each attendee and an email address for confirmation. Make checks payable to Wisconsin Picnic. If you have any questions, call 915-0430.

Maybe you'd like to be the one cooking the food, rather than just eating it?

2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off

The 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off is coming up! Registration is now open for your chance to win cash prizes. First place prize is $100; second place is $75; and third place brings home $50. The entry fee is $10 and limited to the first 20 chefs! The contest will be held at the Balboa Club, located at 111 Balboa Way, on Saturday, October 10 at 5 p.m. Applications are now available at the Balboa Club, so be sure to come down and register ASAP.

Everyone loves a good book, so everyone should love this next event!

Hot Springs Village Literary Festival

Mark October 11th from 2-5 p.m. on your calendar, because you don't want to miss this! Located at the Coronado Community Center (150 Ponderosa Lane), the festival will feature panel discussions, local authors, library tours, a 'build a story' event, local literary clubs and organizations, and more! There will be a reception at the conclusion of the festivities. Sponsored by Friends of the Coronado Center Library, Hot Springs Village Writers, and the Coronado Center Library.

If cards, picnics, chili, and literature weren't enough to get your attention, then maybe you need the thrill of sport!

Senior Softball

From September 10 through November 19, the HSV Senior (Co-ed) Softball League Fall Season will be in play! Come over to the Paul Bewie Boys & Girls Club Fields, just north of the West gate, for some softball! All men 50+ years old and women age 35+ are welcome to join. Games and practice are on Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. Whether you just started playing or have been doing it for years, the league has various skill levels and special rules to make the play more senior-friendly. For more information, contact Dennis Kessen at 501-226-5090.

So there you have it, five exciting opportunities for recreation happening next month in Hot Springs Village. Hopefully everyone can find at least one that suits their interests! Have fun out there!
