Try subscribing to the Village Digest, which sends out weekly email updates about the many events that occur locally throughout the year. Keep reading to see a sample of what was included in the latest issue, released on July 29.

Senior Services Expo on October 13

HSV will be hosting its first annual senior services expo on October 13 with the goal of keeping local seniors educated about the many services, programs, and resources available to them in the community. The event will be held in the Coronado Community Center from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature information from 22 different organizations, such as the Oaklawn Center on Aging, Social Security, and The Caring Place. In addition, there will be three information sessions held during the event: "What Elders Need to Know, including the Miller Trust" by Attorney Karen Baim Reagler; "Hope for the Future" by Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Arkansas's Mary Braswell; and "Getting Help in Times of Trouble" by the Area Agency on Aging's Missy Masterson-Hale. Finally, there will be several speakers from other Arkansas agencies on aging.

DeSoto Boulevard Paving Starts August 1

DeSoto Boulevard will be milled and repaved throughout the week, beginning at Los Lagos and continuing east to Pontevedra. Expect delays and try to avoid the area if possible!

Shop the Green Market Every Thursday at 8 a.m.

Every Thursday morning through October, head over to Grove park to shop around the Green Market! The market features produce, arts, and crafts, and more from 8 a.m. until noon!

Citizens Police Academy

The next incarnation of the Citizens Police Academy is currently open to applications! Print an application here or grab one in person at the Police Department (113 Calella Road) for the academy, which begins on September 1, 2016. Classes will take place at the Coronado Community Center from 6-8 p.m. every Thursday night for eight weeks. Applicants must be able to pass a background check.
