Get to Know Your Fire and Police Departments

Submitted by on

A community is made up of many, many parts, but two of the most visible are the fire and police departments. Each one fulfills an important role in keeping Hot Springs Village running smoothly, even though you might not always notice. Tomorrow, September 13, you can learn more about how the police department functions and who keeps it functioning with two events, Coffee with the Chief and the Police Training Center's open house. On October 15, the fire department will be hosting an open house of their own. Keep reading to learn more about these great events!

Tomorrow, September 13, at 8 a.m., head on over to the Coronado Community Center to enjoy a cup of coffee with Hot Springs Village Police Chief Ricky Middleton. In addition, Saline County Prosecutor Ken Casady will be attending the event as a guest speaker.

For more police-themed fun, look no further than the Police Training Simulator Fundraiser Kick-off Open House, which begins tomorrow at 2 p.m. and runs until 6 p.m. The Hot Springs Village Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (wow, that's a mouthful!) is looking to raise enough money to buy a police training simulator. The open house is being held at the new Police Training and Event Center located at 301 Balearic Road and includes building tours, refreshments, and drawings every 30 minutes for free sessions on the training simulator (once it becomes available in 2017). For for information on the fundraiser or the group, visit www.hsvcpaaa.com.

As previously mentioned, the fire department will be hosting an open house as well, with theirs scheduled for October 15. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Cortez Fire Station will be open to visitors of all ages! Attendees will be able to see firefighters at work with a demonstration of four different firefighting exhibitions including repelling, propane gas fire, extrication, and structure fire in the training tower. Handouts will be available for adults, while children will receive goody bags in addition to the fun and games at the event, such as fire hose practice, fire-truck tours, and a bounce house. Lunch at the open house will consist of hotdogs and chips.
